TNT chases down Ginebra, gets twice-to-beat incentive

Updated: Aug 16, 2019

TNT Katropa scooped its first twice-to-beat advantage card and flew to the second spot after demolishing the superior Barangay Ginebra San Miguel with a 29-point lead in the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup eliminations, 121-92, September 23, 2017.

Import Glen Rice, Jr. submitted a massive 36 points, nine rebounds and four assists on his six-out-of-13 shooting behind the rainbow territory—bolstering Katropa’s winning streak up to four victories already.

Ginebra’s treys were bitter as they only made six out of its 23 attempts.

Kings were still up by 11 points in the third chapter, long before Rice erupted four consecutive shots from the long range to trim the deficit, 86-63.

TNT opened the fourth frame with triple blasts of two-point shots coming from Jayson Castro. Texters then fired multiple digs to balloon their lead to a colossal 32 points, 115-83.

Efforts of Justin Brownlee’s 28 points and Japeth Aguilar’s 19 combined were not enough to secure Ginebra to an almost badge for a twice-to-beat advantage as well.

KaTropa displayed a sterling performance before the Big Dome crowd as five of its players, along with Rice, carved double figures from its locals.

Castro supplied 28 points, four boards and seven assists, together with Roger Pogoy and Troy Rosario’s 15 markers apiece; Kelly Williams also produced 10 points and 11 caroms.

Albeit both squads clinched twin 8-3 cards, TNT is still the first team to pocket the twice-to-beat comfort.
