Bolick leads Lions, highlights NCAA tourney

Updated: Aug 16, 2019

It is usual for foreign players to create noise in the basketball, but the current season of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), a local player draws the exceptional attention.

San Beda guard Robert Bolick stands out as the excellent game-changer.

Local big names like San Beda's Calvin Abueva and Perpetual Help's Scottie Thompson made it in the game’s spotlight as much as Bolick is getting at.

Last season became a witness of Bolick’s incredible job especially his strong stance in their final race with Arellano University, and bagging the 2017 MVP honors in the PBA D-League with his former team Cignal. His roaring success became his insight to the 93rd NCAA season journey.

“It has made me work harder on my game. I love the pressure that comes with being a favorite,” said Bolick.

Red Lions—with its starters Jayvee Mocon and David Potts, and imports Arnauld Noah and Donald Tankoua—will compete against San Sebastian Stags that has made forward under Egay Macaraya’s two years of discipline to defend their title on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Stags marked a 7-2 record in the second round of the last season.

“With what I’m seeing, the character of the boys and the character of the team is already there,” said Macaraya. “Their willingness to win is evident.”

In the other game, Mapua Cardinals lost their race to Arellano Chiefs without point guard Darrell Menina and their back-to-back MVP Allwell Oraeme in the team who took the season off.

Cardinals had only 11 players with Leo Gabo’s comeback in the team.
