Gilas goes rampage, outguns Iraq

Gilas Pilipinas earned its back-to-back wins by dispatching the big guys of Iraq team, 84-68, and blasting the second half of the game in 2017 FIBA Asia Cup on Friday, August 11 at Beirut, Lebanon.


The huge 21-point supremacy the Philippine team buried against the Iraq came from the sudden rampage ablaze by Christian Standhardinger’s effort to flame the offense after the elusive first half, submitting his 16 points and seven rebounds.


Gilas’ gunner Terrence Romeo carved 17 points, 4 assists and two rebounds, who consistenly pulled the trigger and cause panic to Iraq.


Chot Reyes’ crew didn’t allow to narrow the lead as Iraq seemed to be hanging in the last frame by sinking two-point shots stemming mostly from Kevin Galloway’s double-double, propelling 23 points and 14 rebounds.


Carl Bryan Cruz, who came off the bench to tie the score to 29-29 with two minutes remaining in the first half, kicked in 11 points.


Matthew Wright who contributed 8 points along with Gabe Norwood apiece, sank three to lead Gilas with 32-29 on the board.


Gilas Pilipinas’ next assignment is on Sunday, August 13, to outlast Qatar.
