Federer takes 8th Wimbledon title vs Cilic

Updated: Aug 16, 2019

For the eighth time, Switzerland’s Roger Federer has once again delighted the tennis fans as he won at the All England Club against Croatia’s first-time Wimbledon finalist Marin Cilic in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 without dropping a set, and a record of 19th Grand Slam title on Sunday.

Cilic, 28, hasn’t submitted his former appalling serves that once brought him to his first Grand Slam title in 2014 U.S Open – Men’s Singles where he used to face Federer in the semi-finals.

But the Swiss legend came back to win the Wimbledon title after five years. Lining with his predecessors Pete Sampras of the 1990s and William Renshaw of the 1880s, the 35-year-old tennis pro could have made it better. He couldn’t take down Novak Djokovic in 2015, and Cilic in the 2016 quarter-finals.

An evident tension has seen through the jittery Federer on the grass court which is considerable because of the huge crowd and the respectable tournament.

The opening stanza was in favor of Cilic, thanks to Federer’s misstrike. But in contrary, Cilic has committed forehand errors to help Federer possess three points.

Federer seemed to be submitting miscues in the game as his first two serves didn’t go well.

A 15-minute breakpoint has to be called. Cilic took advantage of this and captured 17 points in a row in the beginning.

This has pushed Federer to break all the lead of 3-2, thanks to Cilic’s three mistakes, and one hit.
