Gilas rises from pesky Iraq

The Philippine national team has found their way to escape the cold long-range of their past game in the 84-75 win against Iraq in 39th William Jones Cup held at Taipei Heiping Basketball Gymnasium on Thursday, July 20.


Gilas cadets fired up their offense as they drew 14-point lead in the first half.


Gilas has quite overcome seven-out-of-21 treys after misfires behind the arc in their previous game with South Korea.


Iraq struggled to bounce back from a six-point deficit in the last minute as Gilas pulled away and turned the pages to victory.


Import Mike Myers went big submitting 16 points and 16 rebounds, with Kiefer Ravena assisting 13 points and RR Pogoy with 12 points.


10 points apiece came from Carl Bryan Cruz and Jio Jalalon, with Matthew Wright bringing eight in the stretch.


Iraq's Demario Mayfield went massive after producing 29 points with four rebounds, four assists, and six steals.
