Pirates capture back-to-back wins against Lions

Updated: Aug 14, 2019

“Viva Pirata” roared inside the Flying V Center as Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates slayed the defending NCAA champs San Beda, 96-91, on Friday June 14—its first second-straight win against Red Lions after four years.

Pirates proved that they could combat against Lions behind the arc through a grueling performance, which made Lyceum coach Topex Robinson paint a confident smile in the post-game press conference.

“To play against San Beda, it takes a lot of grit and perseverance. It was just about never giving up, but it’s not about me; it’s about the players,” said Robinson.

Robinson knew his crew would showcase a stellar play but he was surprised about his team gunning the game this early with much desire to get past the Lion’s den.

CJ Perez lifted the team with 24 points, with Mike Nzeusseu submitting 18 points and 13 rebounds. Reymar Caduyac contributed 16 points and seven assists that played a major role in crushing Beda’s defense with a layup.

Robert Bolick put up with 21 points but soon was overpowered by the Lions in the crunchtime.

San Beda made 13 out of 26 from the long range to stay within the 12-point gap of Pirates.
